Legislative Director Position

State Representative Carl H. Tepper is seeking a Legislative Director in his Capitol Office in Austin. The Legislative Director will form, develop, and implement the Office's legislative functions, goals, and strategies. The ideal candidate will have strong public policy research skills with general knowledge of the legislative process. Salary will be commensurate with experience and ability.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee Rep. Tepper’s legislative portfolio, including
  •    researching policy proposals;
  •    formulating bill language (in conjunction with the Texas Legislative Council); and
  •    crafting bill layouts, one-pagers, and other legislative documents.
  • Navigate bills throughout the legislative process.
  • Serve as the main office contact for assigned committees and policy areas.
  • Assist in the creation of the daily floor report.
  • Initiate meetings and develop relationships with stakeholders on various issues.
  • Draft communications, such as press releases, newsletters, social media posts, and constituent correspondence.

Qualifications

  • Experience working in the Texas Legislature and/or conducting public policy research.
  • Ability to handle many time-sensitive projects and tasks at once.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to analyze complex topics and summarize them succinctly.


Compensation

Salary will be commensurate with experience.
