Video Streaming Suggestions for closed captioning.

  1. On your computer, open Chrome Chome logo.
  2. At the top right, click More > Settings.
  3. At the bottom of the Settings page, click Advanced > Accessibility > Captions.
  4. Turn on Live Caption.
  5. To customize or change the caption font, size, color, background color, and opacity:
    1. On your computer, open Chrome Chome logo.
    2. At the top right, click More > Settings.
    3. At the bottom of the Settings page, click Advanced > Accessibility > Captions.
    4. In your computer's system preferences, select your customization.

Tips:

  • Collapse and expand captions with the arrow on the caption box.
  • When you play a video, to turn on or off captions, click Media control Music Icon at the top right.
  • To use live captions for videos that auto play, turn on the video volume.
  • Select the captions to move them to your preferred place on your browser.
  • When you click away from the tab with sound, live captions will appear in a hover-bubble that you can drag. To return to the tab with audio, click launch icon Launch Icon.
  • Live Caption is only available in English.

What legislatures are available on audio tape/CD?

We have audio of House debates held in the chamber and House committee meetings from the 63rd Legislature (1973) to the present.

What format can I get my audio on?

A .mp3 file will be sent to you via email

What type of videos are available to order?

  • We have video of all House debates held in the chamber, from the 76th Legislature (1999) to the present, and most committee meetings from the 77th (2001) to the present. We also have some video of previous legislatures. Please call (512) 463-0920 to find out if the video you need is available.
  • If a video file is available on The Texas House of Representatives website, we are able to send you a .mp4 file via email for use on your computer.

What format can I get my video on?

A .mp4 file will be sent electronically via Dropbox.

How do I place an audio/video request?

To request a copy of a video or audio file, please fill out and sign an Open Records Request Form . Once completed, you may:

How long does it take to get my order?

Under the Open Records Act, House Video/Audio must complete this request within ten working days of the request, or certify in writing a reason why the request cannot be completed in that ten day period and set a date and hour within a reasonable time when the request can be completed. All requests are filled in the order in which they are received.

NOTE: The material contained in any recording of proceedings of the Texas House of Representatives produced by the House is subject to a copyright owned by the Texas House of Representatives. Use of recorded material for a commercial purpose, or for another purpose not authorized by federal law, without the written permission of the Committee on House Administration of the Texas House of Representatives is prohibited. A person violating this prohibition is subject to legal action as provided by federal copyright law.

How much does a video/audio order cost?

The cost depends on the format and length of the request. Generally, the cost is $5 per bill requested. Please call House Video/Audio Services (512) 463-0920 or email Corbin.Heinchon@house.texas.gov for a quote. We must receive payment before your requested recordings are sent.

What type of payment is accepted?

  • Cash, Check or Money Order
  • Checks should be made out to The Texas House of Representatives.
  • Exact cash & change are required, because we cannot provide change.

Can anyone listen to audio tapes/CD rather than purchasing them?

Yes. Listeners are welcome to listen to audio recordings in House Video/Audio Services. We are located in the John H. Reagan Building, Room 330 on 105 W. 15th Street (15th & Congress, North of the Capitol). We are open Monday - Friday, from 7:30am - 5:30pm. Listeners are allowed to bring a laptop and there is no charge for listening to recordings.
