The Office of State Representative Daniel Alders is seeking a hard-working and detail-oriented Communications Director. This is a junior-level position ideal for a professional looking to grow a career in communications or the Texas Legislature.
Responsibilities:
- Content Creation and Social Media Management: Draft and design content for social media, newsletters, press releases, and op-eds; manage the Member’s social media presence.
- Communications Strategy: Design and implement comprehensive strategies to highlight legislative action, explain complex policy, and promote district initiatives.
- Administrative Support: Answer phone calls, schedule meetings, welcome visitors to the Capitol office, provide occasional Capitol tours, support with constituent casework, and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Strong Communication: Excellent writing skills with the ability to summarize complex policy into easy-to-understand messaging consistent with the representative’s views.
- Policy Experience: Strong understanding of the legislative process and state government.
- Multimedia Skills: Competent in photography, photo and video editing, and designing graphics.
- Highly Professional: Able to work well in a fast-paced environment, maintain a positive attitude under pressure, take initiative to be proactive in responsibilities, and follow through on tasks.
Availability:
Must be available full-time in Austin. Applicants must be willing to work evenings or weekends as needed (particularly during the legislative session) and occasionally travel to the district.
