Correspondence Assistant
Overview: The Office of Speaker Dustin Burrows is seeking a highly motivated individual to assist with the management of constituent communications in the Office of the Speaker. The correspondence assistant will work with the administrative team to manage the Speaker’s incoming and outgoing constituent communications, casework, and constituent services. The ideal candidate will possess a strong attention to detail and the ability to self-start and manage a variety of tasks on an ongoing basis.
Key Responsibilities:
- Receiving, chronicling, and tracking all incoming correspondence (constituent and statewidecommunications)
- Prepare draft responses to constituents’ inquiries, concerns, and requests, oftentimes conductinglegislative research to understand bills of constituent interest
- Process ceremonial items
- Monitor District news for opportunities for constituent outreach
- Assist with events and special projects under the direction of the Director of Administration
Job Skills & Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree preferred
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills, with an eye for detail
- Strong understanding of legislative process
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple projects simultaneously and meettight deadlines – especially during the legislative session (January-June 2025)
- Prior experience working in Texas Legislature or state government is a plus
- Working knowledge of CMS, TLIS, and CapCentral systems a plus
Additional Information:
This position is based in Austin, Texas at the State Capitol. The correspondence assistant will report to the Director of Administration and work closely with other members of the Speaker’s team. The salary for this position will be commensurate on experience and qualifications.
