Legislative Director

Texas State Representative James Frank, Texas House District 69, is seeking a Legislative Director in his Capitol office in Austin. The Legislative Director will form, develop, and implement all legislative functions, goals, and strategies of the office. The ideal candidate will have strong public policy research skills and experience guiding policy through the legislative process. Salary will be commensurate with experience and ability.

Responsibilities

• Conduct the formation of Rep. Frank’s legislative agenda, including:
o Research policy ideas
o Draft bill language (in conjunction with Legislative Council)
• Craft bill layouts, one-pagers, and other legislation-related communications documents.
• Navigate bills through the legislative process, including by developing strategy and meeting with
stakeholders.
• Serve as the point person for assigned committees and policy areas.
• Oversee the creation of the daily floor report.
• Initiate meetings and develop relationships with stakeholders on priority issues.
• Draft communications such as press releases, newsletters, social media posts, and constituent
correspondence.

Qualifications

• Substantial experience in the Texas Legislature and/or public policy research.
• Ability to handle a multitude of time-sensitive projects and tasks at once.
• Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
• Ability to analyze complex topics and summarize them succinctly.
• Motivated by a strong affinity for public policy work.
• Expertise in healthcare or child welfare policy is preferred.
