The Office of State Representative Nicole Collier is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented, full-time Chief of Staff who has a "can do" attitude. This individual will work closely with the Member and acts as chief policy advisor. The ideal candidate is expected to conduct policy research, produce reports, track legislation, as well as manage and direct team members in the Member's Austin and District offices.
LOCATION: Fort Worth, TX and Austin, TX.
The Texas Legislature’s regular session starts at noon on the second Tuesday in January of each odd-numbered year for no more than 140 days. While the Texas legislature is in regular or special session, the Chief of Staff will work out of the Capitol office. While the Texas legislature is not in session, the Chief of Staff will work out of the District office in Fort Worth, TX.
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Thorough knowledge of the Texas legislative process;
- 3-5 years Texas legislative experience;
- Ability to timely respond to phone calls and emails;
- Understanding of state agencies and legislative operations;
- Proficiency in locating, reading, and understanding state statutes and local ordinances;
- Strong leadership and organizational skills;
- Ability to accept performance-based feedback and direction;
- Proven experience in directing legislative policy from research, drafting negotiating and coordination;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and knowledge of office computer applications;
- Ability to work well under pressure and adhere to strict deadlines;
- Ability and willingness to work long hours, nights, weekends and some holidays as needed; and
- Disciplined and solutions-oriented approach to all tasks.
JOB DUTIES
- Assist the Member in developing, planning and executing the Member's legislative agenda and initiatives;
- Research policy, draft and write talking points, speeches and press statement
- Provide regular updates to the Member on the status of legislation and legislative matters;
- Oversee the Office budget and conduct regular meetings with other team members;
- Review and respond to constituent inquiries and requests in consultation with the Member;
- Oversee the Member's calendar and the scheduling of meetings;
- Organize special events such as town halls and other outreach programs;
- Plan, assign, and/or supervise the work of others in the Office; and
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Member.
