JOURNAL PRODUCTION EDITOR (EDITOR II)
An in-person, full-time position with the Texas House Journal, the official record of formal house proceedings. Performs moderately complex proofreading work. Work is performed under the supervision of the journal clerk with latitude for the exercise of independent judgment.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
- Proofreads typed journal manuscripts for grammar, accuracy, and format consistency
- Assists in training and supervising session journal staff
- Coordinates workflow
- Maintains House Journal Style Manual and proofreading manual
- Performs related projects and duties as assigned
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university. Must have professional experience in proofreading or editing. Should have experience in general office practices and procedures. Some legislative experience is preferred, but not required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES: Extensive knowledge of grammar, vocabulary, and spelling. Skill in proofreading for grammar, spelling, accuracy, and format consistency. Skill in interpreting and working from edited copy. Ability to work effectively in a face-to-face team of two and read aloud for long periods. Ability to become familiar with specialized formats used in producing the journal. Ability to understand the legislative process and its impact on house journal content and format. Ability to work extended hours and under pressure to meet deadlines. Ability to adapt to the changing workload and demands of a legislative schedule. Position is full-time, in-person with state employee benefits and requires the ability to work flexible and considerable extended hours, including weekends, when the legislature is in session. Must adhere to department dress code and demonstrate the ability to follow all policies and procedures as set forth in the Personnel Manual OF Policies and Procedures. Must be physically present in the office to perform assigned duties.
