SUMMARY: Edit analyses of pending legislation for the Daily Floor Report produced for House members during the 89th regular legislative session. The position begins in December and lasts through the end of June. All work performed under the direct supervision of the House Research Organization (HRO) manager. 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES: 

  • Edit analyses of pending legislation for the Daily Floor Report
  • Edit and help write reports on the legislative session and state policy issues. 
  • Ensure accuracy, readability, and impartiality in HRO publications. 
  • Design and produce publications using applicable technology. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Individuals with substantial editing experience and backgrounds in journalism, publishing, law, public policy, and related fields are encouraged to apply. Legislative or public policy experience is preferred but not required. Experience editing complex material for a general audience is preferred. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Advanced skills in copyediting, fact-checking, and proofreading are required. Applicants should have superior editing, writing, and critical analysis skills, as well as mature editorial judgment and demonstrated ability to work quickly and thoroughly under deadline pressure. Publication design skills or a willingness and ability to learn them are required. Experience using Adobe InDesign is preferred but not required. The position requires a commitment to impartial analysis of controversial issues and meticulous attention to detail and factual accuracy. Candidates should be prepared during legislative sessions to work considerable extended hours and weekends, when needed, and have the capacity to work under tight deadlines in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment. Must adhere to department dress code and demonstrate the ability to follow all policies and procedures as set forth in the House of Representatives Personnel Manual of Policies & Procedures.  

Job commitment until the end of the Regular Session.

SALARY RANGE: $4,200 monthly
