Art Fierro was elected to the Texas House of Representatives in February 2019. During the 86th Legislative Session, he served on the House Committees on Agriculture and Livestock; and Elections. As a freshman legislator, he passed two bills and sponsored an additional Senate measure into law.

Before his election to the Texas House, he served on the El Paso Community College Board of Regents for more than a decade. Art served as Secretary from 2006-2008 and Chair of the Board from 2008 until his election to the Texas House.

During his leadership as Chair, EPCC was recognized nationally for developing pathways for minority and under-served students. EPCC was recently one of 30 colleges selected nationally to participate in the AACC Guided Pathways Program. Art has strived to lead strategic efforts in ensuring student success at El Paso Community College. In 2015, The Aspen Institute named EPCC as a Top 10 Community College in the Nation. In 2016, the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) recognized the work accomplished by EPCC with the Student Success Award, and the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) recognized EPCC with the Western Region Equity Award.

Outside the legislature, Rep. Fierro is a marketing and public relations consultant and has worked with several marketing firms, and with for-profit and non-profit businesses in that capacity. Special skills include: strategizing and fundraising campaigns, developing and conducting public relations media training, as well as training and motivating volunteers.

Representative Fierro's community service is extensive, including past and present board memberships in the Hispanic Leadership Institute of El Paso, El Paso International Airport, City of El Paso International Bridge Commission, and others. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson appointed him to one of five Small Business Advisory Committees in the State of Texas. Currently, he serves as the chair of the Rio Grande Council of Governments, serves on the Board of the South-West Texas Border Small Business Development Center, and also serves on the Board of the El Paso Holocaust Museum. Art was elected in 2017 to serve as a Member on the ACCT Diversity Committee.

He has attended both El Paso Community College and the University of Texas at El Paso.

Representative Fierro lives in El Paso with his wife, Anna Perez, and is the proud father of Julianna and Christopher.
