Representative Dan Flynn is in his ninth term representing House District 2 in the Texas House of Representatives. During his time at the Texas Capitol, Representative Flynn has established a strong conservative reputation by standing for limited government, fiscal responsibility, and family values.

For the 86th legislative session, Representative Flynn has the privilege of serving as the chairman of the Defense and Veterans' Affairs Committee and as a member of the Pensions, Investments, and Financial Services Committee and House Administration Committee. In previous sessions, Representative Flynn served as Chairman of the Pensions Committee and Co-Chairman of the Committee on Transparency in State Government Operations. In his years of service on these committees, Representative Flynn's leadership consistently reflects his dedication to conservative principles, House District 2, and the great state of Texas.

Representative Flynn has gained extensive experience in border and homeland security issues through a life-long career in military service. Governor Rick Perry commissioned Representative Flynn as an Admiral in the Texas Navy, a title reserved for honoring those who have provided great service to Texas. He has served honorably in the U.S. Army, the Texas Army National Guard, and the Texas State Guard, and he was promoted to Brigadier General by Governor Abbott. The US Department of Defense has also recognized Representative Flynn for his strong legislative support of the Department's efforts. With this military background and his extensive experience in the legislature, Representative Flynn is uniquely positioned and proud to now chair the House Defense and Veterans' Affairs Committee.

Representative Flynn is also an active member of the National Conference of State Legislators (NCSL). Currently, he serves on the NCSL's Executive Committee, Subcommittee on Audit and Compliance, and Task Force on International Relations. Previously, he was Chairman of the NCSL Task Force on Military and Veterans Affairs, of which he remains a member. In his service to these associations, Representative Flynn advocates for the integrity and efficiency of state legislatures.

Prior to his election to the Texas House of Representatives in 2002, Representative Flynn cultivated a distinguished career in the banking industry. He worked as a consultant in the financial and banking industries in Texas, nationally and internationally, and was later appointed Deputy Banking Commissioner for the State of Texas. Before representing House District 2 at the State Capitol, Representative Flynn served as County Judge of Van Zandt County.

Despite his remarkable career, Representative Flynn is most proud of his accomplishments at home and the life he has built there. A proud father of three, Representative Flynn lives with his wife Susan in Van, Texas where they enjoy spending time with their grandchildren and participating as active members of their community.
