State Representative Claudia Ordaz, Texas House District 79 (El Paso), is seeking a Legislative Director in her Capitol office in Austin. The position is full-time and temporary, ending on June 30, 2027 with the opportunity to extend if the Legislature is called for a special session. Salary is $5,000 per month.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Work directly with the Member and Chief of Staff to develop and advance the Representative's legislative agenda.
• Research local and state policy initiatives.
• Prepare and organize legislative materials for the Representative's legislative agenda.
• Communicate and coordinate with state agencies, local officials, legislative offices, lobbyists, and advocacy organizations to acquire information and address the Representative's priorities.
• Analyze legislation and make policy recommendations.
• Take the lead in organizing the Representative's daily floor packet.
• Assist session interns with their work.
• Assist with constituent casework and communication as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Knowledge and understanding of the legislative process. Previous legislative experience as a Legislative Aide or direct experience advocating at the Capitol strongly preferred.
• Strong reading and writing skills with the ability to analyze and summarize legislation and other related materials.
• Ability to communicate effectively and professionally both verbally and in writing.
• Excellent organization skills and the ability to reprioritize office goals and objectives daily.
• Ability to manage multiple projects under time-sensitive deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to work non-traditional hours as needed, including evenings and weekends.
• Excellent team player with a positive attitude and a desire to grow their skillset.
