Job Summary: The Office of Representative Dr. Suleman Lalani is seeking a highly motivated, versatile individual to oversee digital communications and provide comprehensive communication support for the office. This role will manage the Representative’s online presence and handle the drafting of remarks, talking points, and written materials for public appearances, legislative initiatives, and media engagement. Based in Austin at the Texas State Capitol, this session-only position (ending June 1, 2025) offers an opportunity to contribute directly to the Representative’s legislative and public-facing efforts, enhance messaging strategies, and gain experience in the Texas legislative process.
Key Responsibilities:
· Create engaging daily content (including graphic design) for online use;
· Provide communication support for public appearances, including drafting speeches, remarks, and talking points tailored to various audiences and events;
· Draft press releases, newsletters, and other written materials to effectively communicate legislative priorities;
· Plan and execute digital messaging strategies for legislative priorities, press pushes, and events;
· Coordinate with staff to understand communication needs and provide tailored support; assist in training staff on effective communication practices;
· Monitor online trends and public sentiment to inform content creation and messaging approaches;
· Identify opportunities to amplify legislative and district-focused messaging through various platforms;
· Collaborate with legislative and policy staff to ensure communication materials are accurate and aligned with office goals.
Job Skills & Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s Degree preferred;
· Strong written and verbal communication skills, with an eye for detail and a creative mindset;
· Demonstrated ability to draft speeches, talking points, and communication materials for public figures;
· Proficiency in graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite);
· Strong understanding of social media platforms, analytics tools, and communication trends;
· Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet tight deadlines—especially during the legislative session (January–May 2025);
Experience working a legislative session, in government, political communications, or media is highly desirable.
