State Representative Diana Arévalo of House District 116 Appointed to the Conference Committee on House Bill 29
Austin, Texas - Today, Representative Arévalo was appointed by Speaker Straus to the Conference Committee on House Bill 29 (HB 29). The Conference Committee is responsible for negotiating the differences between the House and Senate versions of HB 29. HB 29 seeks to assist in the prevention and elimination of human trafficking in Texas by enacting recommendations made by the task force.
"It is an honor to be named by Speaker Straus to the Conference Committee. Chairwoman Senfronia Thompson has been the leader on human trafficking legislation, and I look forward to our continued work on the bill. This bill is a big step forward in preventing individuals from being trafficked, helping the victims, and prosecuting the persons responsible for crime," stated Representative Arévalo.
The Texas Human Trafficking Task Force was established in 2009 through HB 4009, and is coordinated through the Office of the Attorney General. It is a collaborative effort between state agencies, local law enforcement entities, District Attorneys, and non-governmental organizations to address human trafficking from multiple perspectives. HB 29 codifies the 11 recommendations of the Texas Human Trafficking Task Force.
