Select Committee on Economic Development Incentives to Hold First Hearing

(AUSTIN, TX) – Wednesday, July 23rd the Select Committee on Economic Development Incentives, chaired by State Representative Angie Chen Button of Garland, will hold its inaugural hearing in Austin. The thirteen member committee will convene at 10:00 AM at the state capitol to take a broad look at the overall effectiveness of economic incentives in Texas.

The Select Committee, appointed by Speaker Joe Straus, has the difficult task of evaluating Texas programs designed to attract new jobs to our state and to decide which ones are working. “Texas is the number one ranked job creator in the nation and has been for years. This doesn’t mean we can sit back and relax with other states and nations biting at our heels. We must work hard to stay on top and to ensure we are not wasting resources on ineffective programs and that the processes in place are transparent,” stated Chairwoman Button.

The Committee plans to hold a series of meetings with the next hearing slated for August 12th in the Dallas area. The August 12th hearing will focus on programs such as the Texas Enterprise Fund and the Emerging Technology Fund.

Currently serving her third term in the Texas House of Representatives, Representative Angie Chen Button serves portions of Richardson, Garland, Sachse, Rowlett, and Dallas in Dallas County.
