Sen. Gallegos, Rep. Alvarado Want All Texans To - Trade Up - During Texas Appliance Rebate Program

State Senator Mario Gallegos and Representative Carol Alvarado, while speaking at the Gulfgate Center Lowe's Home Improvement Store today, encouraged all Texans to call or go online to the Comptroller's Office this Wednesday, April 7th at 7 AM to begin reserving their rebates as part of the "Texas Trade Up Appliance Rebate Program."

The Rebate Program is funded by $23 million in federal stimulus dollars and aims to increase energy efficiency by decreasing the financial burden of transitioning from older appliances to new, ENERGY STAR models that conserve electricity. Along with appliance purchase rebates, consumers will be eligible for an additional $75 rebate if they recycle their old appliance.

"The nation saw an overwhelming response to the original Cash for Clunkers program in the automotive industry. All Texans should take advantage of this unique opportunity to reduce the cost of improving both their homes and their environment," said Senator Gallegos.

Representative Alvarado, reminded her constituents that even without the rebate, newer, more efficient appliances can pay for themselves, saying "ENERGY STAR appliances utilize less electricity, natural gas and water, reducing the strain on our environment and lowering the cost of your utility bills."

The "Texas Trade Up Appliance Rebate Program" is being administered by the State Comptroller of Public Accounts. For More information, please visit
