AUSTIN – Today, Speaker of the Texas House Dennis Bonnen announced committee assignments for the 86th Legislative Session, appointing Representative Jeff Leach as Chairman of the House Committee on Judiciary & Civil Jurisprudence and as a member on the House Committee on Pensions, Investments & Financial Services and the House Committee on Redistricting.

In response, Representative Leach issued the following statement:

"Serving the people of House District 67 is a tremendous honor and I am grateful to Speaker Bonnen for entrusting me to represent and advocate for my district and for all Texans through these assignments. The people of Texas expect and deserve a productive legislative session focused on the issues that matter most. My constituents have my firm commitment to continue to work tirelessly on their behalf to ensure Texas remains the best state in America to live, work and raise a family.”

The House Committee on Judiciary & Civil Jurisprudence is a nine-member committee tasked with jurisdiction over all matters pertaining to civil law, civil procedure, administrative law, uniform state laws, creating or changing courts of judicial districts, and 13 state agencies, among others. The House Committee on Pensions, Investments & Financial Services is comprised of 11 members and has jurisdiction over all matters pertaining to the state banking system, savings & loan associations, credit unions, state and local bond indebtedness, lending, regulation of securities & investments, and the benefits and financial obligations of public retirement systems, among other matters. The House Committee on Redistricting is a 15-member committee with jurisdiction over all matters pertaining to preparations for the redistricting process - including legislative districts, congressional districts, and the creation of districts for the election of judicial officers or of governing bodies or representatives of political subdivisions or state agencies.

A fifth-generation Texan, born and raised in Plano, Representative Leach graduated from Plano Senior High School before attending Baylor University. He went on to earn his law degree from Southern Methodist University’s Dedman School of Law and currently practices at the Texas law firm of Gray, Reed & McGraw LLP. Leach specializes in general and civil commercial litigation, real estate and construction law, and in 2017, he was recognized as a "Rising Star" by Texas Super Lawyer. Representative Leach proudly serves on the Board of Trustees for Houston Baptist University and on the Advisory Board for Meals on Wheels of Collin County. Jeff and his wife Becky are the proud parents of Brady (age 10), Charlotte (age 8) and Landry (age 4). They are active members of Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano, where they have served for several years in the Young Families Ministry. In 2013, Representative Leach took the oath of office to serve House District 67 in the Texas House of Representatives. He is currently serving his fourth term.
