El Paso, TX: State Representative Lina Ortega announces her first Frontera Roundtable: Connecting Women on the Border to Healthcare on March 23, 2018 from 3-5pm at UMC- West Clinic, 6600 N Desert Blvd,El Paso, TX 79912 and a Women's Healthcare Access Clinic and Enrollment Session on March 24, 2018 from 10am-1pm at Project Vida, 3607 Rivera Ave, El Paso, TX 79905.

The March 23rd Frontera Roundtable will be policy driven and examine how agencies, providers, and community organizations can work together to increase women's access to healthcare and improve outcomes for women who give birth on the border. Focusing on eligibility barriers, gaps in coverage, outreach opportunities and enrollment issues, the roundtable aims to connect local experts who are providing care to women, with agencies and organizations working to improve women's access to healthcare statewide. Our region makes up one of the largest binational communities and addressing women's health in our region is imperative.

At the roundtable discussion, we will be joined by Texas Health and Human Services Commission representatives Lesley French, Associate Commissioner for Health, Developmental and Independence Services, Erika Ramirez, Policy Director from the Texas Women's Health Coalition and roundtable leaders from UMC, Project Vida, Texas Tech University, UTEP, El Jardin Birth and Family Resource Center, Centro San Vicente.

On March 24, 2018, Representative Ortega will partner with Project Vida Health Center and University Medical Center to host a Women's Healthcare Access Clinic and Enrollment Session, featuring Sherlena Boehm, Program Specialist for the Healthy Texas Women Program. In partnership with UMC and Project Vida Health Center these events will connect the public with agencies and organizations working to improve and increase access to healthcare for women across the State of Texas. Women who qualify will have the opportunity to enroll in Women’s Health Programs that are available through the State of Texas. Local agencies and community organizations will provide information tables for public access. Both events aim to highlight the work of El Paso’s healthcare providers, the needs of our community and the valuable solutions that have been developed here.
