Giddings Spotlights DFW Film Industry  print page

by: Rep. Giddings, Helen

Representative Helen Giddings (Dallas), held her second film industry professional event on Monday, June 30, 2014 at the Hall of State at Fair Park in Dallas. The event was co-hosted with Dallas Film Commission ("DFC"), who provided an overview of all the programs and services they offer Dallas-Fort Worth area film industry professionals. The event also included a dynamic and informative panel discussion focused on the commercial film industry in the local area.

In May 2014, Giddings organized a similar event with the Texas Film Commission in Dallas, but explained that "this event was different, in that, we provided a platform and opportunity for film industry professionals across the DFW area, to learn about what their local Dallas Film Commission can do to assist in their projects." She added, "We were so impressed by the interest sparked by the first event in May, that we started working immediately to organize a second event. The RSVPs for this event more than doubled from the first, so that reinforced the importance of working with the Dallas Film Commission to get information out to the film community."

This event included a panel discussion, led by Commissioner Burklund, focused on the commercial film industry in the DFW area. The panelists included: Byron Fitts (Executive Producer at The Department), Michelle Habecker (Commercial Incentives Specialist at the Texas Film Commission), John Gilliland (Executive Producer at Lucky 21), and Teresa Cameron (Head of Production at Lucky 21). The discussion was lively and attendees asked poignant questions about the commercial film industry to real, active members.

Over 120 film industry professionals attended this event! A lively question and answer session ensued with many of the participants indicating they were able to obtain the information they need to move forward. The reception afterwards allowed participants to network with fellow film industry professionals and get to know each other.

In addition to the Dallas Film Commission, the panel participants, and attendees, Representative Giddings thanked the following people and organizations who helped make this event a success: from Dallas City Hall, Mr. Karl

Zavitkovsky; from the Texas Film Commission, Ms. Heather Page; and from the City of Dallas, Mayor Pro Tem, Tennell Atkins.
