Representative Four Price Statement regarding Work of the Sunset Advisory Commission  print page

by: Rep. Price, Four

Austin – Texas State Representative Four Price, who serves as Vice Chair of the Sunset Advisory Commission, issued the following statement regarding the work of the Sunset Advisory Commission.

“The Sunset Advisory Commission held hearings at the State Capitol on June 24th and 25th with much of the focus pertaining to the staff report recommendations on four state health agencies commonly known as DARS, DFPS, DSHS, and DADS. During those two days of hearings, lasting for over 27 hours, Commission members, under the leadership of Chair Jane Nelson, heard from Sunset Commission staff, agency officials and from more than 240 individuals who offered valuable public testimony. Also, Commission members had the opportunity to ask many salient questions during the hearings. Often, the matters being discussed produced understandably strong emotions because these agencies impact the lives of every person living in Texas, and many in a very personal manner.

For numerous reasons, healthcare, and its vast breadth of issues, is among the most discussed public policy matters in our society, and it rightfully deserves such attention. This attention was certainly displayed by the Commission members throughout the hearings and by the public, who we serve. In this regard, I am grateful to the many Texans who have shared their views with those of us who serve on the Commission. I also thank my House colleagues who have made the effort to discuss with me the proposed recommendations in a helpful manner.

Also, I thank the staff of the Sunset Commission for their professional work leading up to the hearings, for their concise presentations, and for their ability to answer questions in a knowledgeable manner. Having worked directly with the Sunset staff since the 2012-2013 review cycle, it is clear to me that Texas is blessed to have a Sunset staff comprised of extraordinarily hardworking professionals, who offer unfiltered and unbiased advice, and who truly care about the well-being of Texas.”

Representative Price represents House District 87, which includes Carson, Hutchinson, Moore, Potter and Sherman counties. He also serves on the House Appropriations Committee and its Article II Subcommittee, which hears matters pertaining to the health and human services portion of the state budget.
