AUSTIN — State Representative Paul Workman was on Friday appointed by House Speaker Joe Straus to serve on the House Select Committee on Transportation Funding, Expenditures, and Finance.
"There are few issues more vital to our state's continued economic success and Texans' quality of life than transportation," said Rep. Workman. "I thank Speaker Straus for the opportunity to serve on this important committee."
The committee was created by legislation passed during the third called session of the 83rd Legislature to examine transportation funding and relay its findings to the 84th Legislature. Among other things, the committee will study the reliability of current funding sources, the use of debt in transportation financing, use of the state highway fund for other agencies, and appropriations to the Texas Department of Transportation.
"Transportation is a top priority for the Texas House," said Speaker Straus. "This committee will take an extensive, objective look at the transportation solutions that best suit our people and our growing economy."
"Transportation has become a hot-button issue across our state, particularly here in Travis County. I am ready to get to work to find solutions to fund our state's transportation infrastructure needs," Rep. Workman said.
