Rep. Alonzo Urges Everyone to Remember the Great Civil Rights Icon

AUSTIN, TX - Today, Texas State Representative Roberto R. Alonzo like so many others across the state and nation took the time and opportunity to remember and share the life and legacy of civil rights leader and icon, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The great leader will be honored and remembered with events all over the country, including several in Dallas and Washington, DC, where Rep. Alonzo will be taking part in the Presidential Inauguration festivities. Monday, Jan, 21, 2013 is not just a day off from school and work for many — It’s an opportunity to share the remarkable life and legacy of this great civil rights leader - a man who changed the face of American culture and society.

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. -Martin Luther King

"How incredible is it to view our current president and read the above quote from Martin Luther King's infamous speech fifty years ago," said Rep. Alonzo.

The motto "Dream-Believe-Achieve" is our offices' theme for January, celebrating not only a new year but an iconic civil rights leader Martin Luther King Junior. During the American Civil Rights Movement King's speech "I Have a Dream" will always be a cherished moment in American History to reflect on. President Barack Obama, a man from African American decent is now leading our nation; what we are witnessing is Martin Luther King's "dream" become reality. President Barack Obama's inauguration this year will take place on the day we celebrate the birth of Martin Luther King Jr. truly shows that change is possible. Citizens of America cannot be discouraged when they have fear or doubt in our nation, but should look at moments like this in history as credible evidence for hope. As the year 2013 begins we will be holding this same passion that the late Martin Luther King Junior had, and Representative Alonzo's team will work diligently to assure this current legislative session starts on a good note. Wishing you and your family a happy new year from the office of Texas Representative Alonzo!
