AUSTIN) –Speaker Tom Craddick (Midland), today, announced that Rep. Jim Jackson (Carrollton) has been appointed as the American Legislative Exchange Council's (ALEC) Texas state chairman. Rep. Jackson replaces outgoing state chairman Rep. John Davis (Houston), who served in the position for five years.

"Rep. Jackson has demonstrated time and again his commitment to Texans and to upholding a standard of excellence in public service," Speaker Craddick said. "His record embodies ALEC ideals, and I believe his constituents can be proud of this honor that has been bestowed on their representative. I would also like to thank Rep. John Davis for his service to ALEC."

ALEC is a non-partisan, public-private partnership whose mission is to promote free markets, limited government, federalism and individual liberty. Its state chairs are responsible for recruiting legislative and private sector members, appointing a private sector state chair and holding a yearly ALEC membership event.

"I thank Speaker Craddick and the ALEC leadership for this new opportunity to serve," Rep. Jackson stated. "Working with other members of the Texas Delegation, legislators from across the nation, and private industry leaders to find solutions to our common challenges promises to be a rewarding, worthwhile and exciting experience."

Rep. Jackson is serving his second term as the state representative for District 115, which includes Addison, Carrollton, Coppell, Farmer's Branch and a section of northern Dallas. He is the chair of budget and oversight of the House Committee on Public Health, and is a member of the House Appropriations Committee and the House Redistricting Committee. He has been recognized by Texans for Fiscal Responsibility as a "Texas Taxpayer Hero," by the Texas Association of Business as a "Fighter for Free Enterprise," by the Texas Municipal Police Association with the "Legislative Excellence Award," by the Combined Law Enforcement Association of Texas as one the "Ten Best of the Texas House," and by Americans for Prosperity as a "Defender of the American Dream."

Rep. Jackson's appointment is effective immediately.
