Role Overview
The Communications Director will manage the office’s public identity, coordinate constituent outreach, and support the Vice Chair's legislative priorities. This role requires a blend of creative content production, disciplined writing, and administrative support.
Key Responsibilities
- Content Creation: Draft and design press releases, newsletters, social media graphics, and op-eds.
- Media Relations: Act as a point of contact for media inquiries and maintain updated press lists.
- Constituent Engagement: Manage constituent correspondence, including mail and digital database entries.
- Administrative Support: Answer phone calls, welcome visitors to the Capitol office, and perform other duties as assigned by the Chief of Staff.
- Digital Management: Oversee the Member’s social media presence and monthly digital newsletters.
Qualifications
- Bilingual Skills (Preferred): Proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing Spanish is strongly preferred to effectively serve the diverse needs of House District 115.
- Strong Communication: Excellent writing and editing skills with the ability to summarize complex policy into succinct updates.
- Organizational Prowess: Ability to handle multiple time-sensitive projects simultaneously in a high-pressure environment.
- Commitment: An eagerness to learn the inner workings of state government. Previous knowledge of the Texas Legislature is beneficial but not required.
- Availability: Must be available full-time in Austin or House District 115. Candidates must be willing to travel between locations and work occasional evenings or weekends as needed.
