Legislative Aide Position (part-time)

The Office of Vice-Chair Lulu Flores is seeking a motivated and hardworking individual to join her team as a Legislative Aide dealing primarily with the Committee on Culture, Recreation and Tourism (CRT). The position will be for 20-30 hours a week in the Capitol office in Austin and will last for the duration of the 89th Legislative Session. This position is NOT for a committee clerk but rather a legislative aide to support Representative Flores in her role as vice chair.

Responsibilities

  • Provide policy analysis and briefings on legislation within the committee’s jurisdiction
  • Monitor and assess proposed legislation, amendments, and committee hearings
  • Draft memos, talking points, and policy recommendations for Vice-Chair Flores
  • Engage with stakeholders, including state agencies, advocacy groups, and industryrepresentatives
  • Assist in preparing questions and discussion points for committee hearings
  • Assist the legislative director and chief of staff on legislation before the CRT committee
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Skills & Qualifications

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to work under multiple deadlines in a high-pressure environment
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • Experience in Texas state government or politics is a plus
  • Familiarity with state parks; control of fish and wildlife; regulation of hunting, fishingand related recreational activities and/or the promotion and regulation of cultural,historical and tourism industries in Texas is a plus
  • Familiarity with the Committee on the Formation of a Texas Bicentennial Commission,the Parks and Wildlife Department, the Texas Commission on the Arts, the StateCemetery Committee, the Texas State Library and Archives Commission, the TexasHistorical Commission and/or the State Preservation Board is a plus
