ASSISTANT VOTING CLERK/INDEXER
(SESSION ONLY - ONE FLOOR POSITION)SUMMARY: Supports the Journal Clerk's office of the Texas House of Representatives in the production of the House Journal, the official record of the formal house proceedings. All work performed under the direct supervision of the House Journal Clerk Department manager.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
- Documents proceedings and actions, including votes, taken by the house on all measures, motions, and questions of order during house sessions on the chamber floor.
- Assists in operating the electronic voting system during sessions of the house and in proofreading and verifying vote histories and journal index entries.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Graduation from high school or equivalent. Graduation from an accredited college is generally preferred. Education and experience may be substituted one for another.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Ability to become familiar with specialized formats used in producing the journal. Knowledge of grammar, vocabulary, and spelling. Must demonstrate an attention to detail and accuracy within defined formats. Ability to interpret and follow instructions. Ability to work extended hours and under pressure to meet deadlines. Ability to adapt to the changing workload and demands of a legislative schedule. Position is full-time with state employee benefits and requires the ability to work flexible and considerable extended hours, including weekends. General knowledge of state government policies and procedures preferred, but not required. Must adhere to department dress code and demonstrate the ability to follow all policies and procedures as set forth in the Personnel Manual.
