Representative Jeff Leach Issues Statement on the Extension of Plano ISD & Allen ISD School Closures
ALLEN – Today, following announcements from Plano ISD & Allen ISD to extend school closures through April 3, Representative Jeff Leach issued the following statement:
"I fully agree with the decisions made by the leadership of Plano ISD and Allen ISD, as their utmost responsibility is to ensure the protection and safety of our schoolchildren, our educators, and all of their families. Today's decision allows more time for the districts to assess and analyze this unprecedented situation as our community, state and nation respond to this pandemic on a daily - and hourly - basis.
"Without question, the health, safety and protection of our citizens, and the prevention of uncontrollable community spread of COVID-19, is of paramount importance, and all of us have an integral role to play in that effort. Given the ever-changing nature of this pandemic, citizens should be prepared for all contingencies, including further extensions. Be assured that your state leaders are aggressively working around the clock with our counterparts at all levels of government, the private sector, numerous community partners and with the citizens we serve to ensure we defeat this pandemic as soon as possible.”
Following advice and guidance from local, state and federal health authorities, both school districts will remain closed to the public through Friday, April 3. Due to ongoing developments concerning the spread of COVID-19, discussions of additional extensions will continue throughout both districts.
