Rep. Rhetta Andrews Bowers Receives Legislative Achievement Award.
Rowlett, Texas – Recently, State Representative Rhetta Andrews Bowers (HD-113) was honored as the recipient of two prestigious service awards. On November 16, 2019, Bands of Hope, an area non-profit organization that supports underprivileged single women with children, named Representative Bowers as one of their 2019 Trailblazers. Bands of Hope's mission is to provide social and financial support to single women with children by empowering women to be successful by offering mentoring opportunities.
On December 1, 2019, Representative Bowers received the Legislative Achievement Award at the End with Red 2019 Gala from The Afiya Center for her tireless support for reproductive justice work that is centered around HIV programming focusing on economic justice. Since elected, Representative Bowers has built esteem amongst her colleagues and Texans alike for her sincere commitment to bring awareness to women's rights.
Serving as the four time co-chair of the Dallas Women's March and having authored House Bill 3435, which declares March 1st of every year "Texas Girls in STEM Day," (designated to encourage young women to enter the STEM fields), Representative Bowers stated, "It is an honor to fight for women and represent our causes. The time for equality is now and we must stand together to give the next generation of women the same opportunities and decision making abilities as everyone."
