Representative Erin Zwiener Files Voting with Student ID Bill
Austin, TX -- Representative Erin Zwiener filed a bill today that would allow Texas college students to vote with their student ID. House Bill 1950 adds student IDs to the list of acceptable forms of photo ID that voters have to present at polling locations before they cast their ballot.
“When young Texans engage in the electoral process, they stay engaged for the rest of their lives,” said Representative Erin Zwiener. “Texas has one of the lowest voter turnouts in the nation. Let’s fix that by removing unnecessary barriers between our university students and the ballot box.”
Housed within District 45 is Texas State University. With a student population of nearly 39,000, it is essential to address the unique barriers students face when trying to vote.
“Our democracy is precious, but it’s dependent on healthy participation,” said Representative Zwiener. “Texas has the opportunity to celebrate and protect our democratic traditions by making it more accessible.”
