REPRESENTATIVE CANDY NOBLE FILES BILL TO PROTECT TEXAS TAXPAYERS FROM FUNDING ABORTION

AUSTIN – In an effort to protect Texas taxpayers and defend the unborn, today Rep. Candy Noble filed HB 1929 to ensure that no taxpayer dollars are used to fund abortion providers. This legislation would prohibit government entities from using taxpayer dollars to contract with abortion providers or affiliates of abortion providers. HB 1929, along with SB 389 filed by Senator Donna Campbell, seeks to permanently close an existing loophole that would allow this practice.

“Very simply, this common sense legislation will ensure that no taxpayer dollars are used to fund abortions,” said Representative Noble. “It is not the government's role to force Texans to pay for abortions with their tax dollars.”

The passage of HB 1929 would remove taxpayer funding from abortion providers and their affiliates. This is consistent with the Legislature's policy of ensuring dignity for the unborn and is good public policy.
