Representative Mary González Receives “Champion for Children” Award by the Equity Center
AUSTIN - The Equity Center, representing over 600 of Texas’ school districts, recognized Representative Mary González with the “Champion for Children” award on Sunday for her tireless advocacy in building a robust and equitably funded public education system. The Equity Center works to provide all public school districts with fair and equal access to Texas’ resources.
“It is one of my greatest honors and responsibilities serving our children and working to secure the best public education system possible. Given that the 86th Legislative Session is well underway, my priority will continue to be strengthening our public schools through increased funding and innovative legislation,” said Rep. González.
Rep. González has filed several education bills relating to special populations, school finance, and higher education. Rep. González's special populations bills remove offensive language from statute, include special education considerations into educator preparation standards, and train educators on sex abuse of students with severe cognitive disabilities.
“I would like to thank the Equity Center for this award, as well as for their unwavering dedication to reforming our state’s education system,” said Rep. González. “The Equity Center has played a crucial role in directing the state’s efforts around equitable school finance policy, and I am grateful for their continued advocacy.”
