State Representative Brad Buckley Named to Ag and Livestock, Appropriations, and Local and Consent Calendars Committees
AUSTIN, TX -- Wednesday morning, Speaker of the House Dennis Bonnen (Angleton) announced committee assignments for the Texas House of Representatives. District 54 Representative, Dr. Brad Buckley (R-Salado), was appointed to the Agriculture and Livestock, Appropriations, and Local and Consent Calendars committees.
"I am humbled and honored to have the opportunity to serve on these three committees and directly impact the good people who live in the communities I have the pleasure of serving."
"As a rancher, I am especially excited to serve on Ag and Livestock. I know that the other committee members and I have the chance to make great strides in tackling the issues so many of the ranchers and farmers face both in my district and throughout Texas."
"With school finance and property tax reform both being a top-priority issue this legislative session, and having a family background in public education, I promise to use my platform serving on Appropriations to fight for the educators and students of Bell and Lampasas counties."
"I thank Speaker Bonnen for his confidence in me and the committee chairmen for their leadership, and I am ready to start working."
• The House Appropriations committee deals mainly with the budget, appropriating the State Treasury funds to the various agencies and programs around Texas. As a large committee ordered with one of the State's most important tasks, the Appropriations committee will make considerable decisions on the issues of property tax and school finance reform.
• The House Agriculture and Livestock committee handles matters pertaining to agriculture, horticulture, farm husbandry, livestock animal raising, the preservation of forests, and issues particularly affecting rural areas of the State.
• The House Local and Consent Calendars committee places bills on the House floor calendar that have been deemed local in nature, as in they pertain to local communities specifically and will not affect the State as a whole.
Rep. Brad Buckley is a first-term legislator from Salado, Texas, and represents part of Bell County and all of Lampasas County in Central Texas. He holds a Bachelor of Veterinary Science and a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Texas A&M University, and is a local veterinarian in Killeen, Texas.
