REP. TRAVIS CLARDY’S STATEMENT ON THE SWEARING IN OF GOV. GREG ABBOTT AND LT. GOV. DAN PATRICK
AUSTIN- On Tuesday, January 15, 2019, Governor Greg Abbott and Lt. Governor Dan Patrick were sworn in for their second terms of office. The inauguration took place on the north steps of the State Capitol and the ceremony is a time-honored tradition in Texas.
In his inaugural address, Lt. Governor Patrick highlighted the fact that Texas does not function like Washington, D.C. and Texans expect Republicans and Democrats to work across the aisle for the benefit of all Texans. Governor Abbott then laid out an aggressive agenda for the 86th legislative session: to address public school finance, human trafficking, and border security.
“I am pleased Gov. Abbott highlighted his commitment to helping find ways to properly fund our public schools,” Rep. Travis Clardy stated. “Our state leadership has long ‘kicked the can down the road’ on school finance. I am excited Gov. Abbott is dedicating his focus to working with the Legislature to find a way to comply with our state constitutional duty to support and maintain an efficient system of public schools.”
“Texans expect their elected officials to tackle big issues," Rep. Clardy continued. “Policy - not politics - must be our focus. I look forward to working with my colleagues in the House and Senate to support the policies that benefit House District 11 and all Texans.”
Representative Clardy is currently serving his fourth term as the State Representative for House District 11, which includes Cherokee, Nacogdoches, and Rusk counties.
