Representative Mary González Elected to NALEO Educational Fund Board of Directors
AUSTIN - Last month, State Representative Mary González was elected to serve on the non-partisan board of directors for the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) Educational Fund. In this role, Rep. González will work to facilitate and advance Latinx political engagement.
“Democracy only functions effectively when individuals are active and engaged participants,” said Rep. González. “NALEO is nationally recognized for its efforts to increase Latinx political participation, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to drive this conversation forward.”
Since 1981, the NALEO Educational Fund has worked tirelessly to increase Latinx participation and representation in American politics by supporting Latinx policymakers and promoting civic engagement in communities across the country.
Rep. González will join Dallas County Treasurer Pauline Medrano as the sole board members based in Texas. With more than 11 million Latinx residents, Texas has the second-largest Latinx population in the country, and Rep. González is excited to amplify their voices on the national stage.
