REP. TAN PARKER RE-APPOINTED CHAIRMAN OF THE HOUSE COMMITTEE ON INVESTMENTS AND FINANCIAL SERVICES
(Austin, Texas) Today Representative Tan Parker was re-appointed as Chairman of the House Committee on Investments and Financial Services. This crucial committee has jurisdiction over matters pertaining to the state banking system, savings and loan associations, the regulation of securities and investments, identity theft, and a number of other financial issues. Additionally, the committee has direct oversight of several state agencies, including the Finance Commission of Texas, the Texas Department of Banking, the Texas Public Finance Authority, the State Securities Board, and many others.
“It has been a tremendous privilege to serve in this role over the past two years, and I am eager to remain focused on the critical issues related to Texas' banking, lending, and borrowing systems that are essential to our state's economic success,” Parker stated. "I also welcome each of the new committee members and look forward to working alongside them to advance our committee's priorities during the 85th Legislative Session."
The House Committee on Investments and Financial Services is entrusted with important tasks pertaining to financial services in Texas. It will be their responsibility to ensure the coordination and accountability of state financial institutions, guarantee that they operate in a sound and responsible manner, and make certain that Texas maintains a safe and competitive financial services system. In addition to this Chairmanship, Parker was also appointed to the House Committees on International Trade and Intergovernmental Affairs and Redistricting.
In closing, Parker added, “Prior to the start of the 85th Legislative Session, the House Committee on Investments and Financial Services reviewed many crucial matters pertaining to managing our state’s financial services while also ensuring that business and consumer confidence remains high. I am certain that we will pass key legislation to protect Texans and businesses from cybersecurity threats, increase financial protections for the elderly, and further cultivate the investment climate in Texas."
Entering his 6th term in the Texas Legislature, Representative Parker is focusing his efforts on promoting fiscally responsible government spending, foster care reform, transportation investments, border security, mental health, property tax reform, and providing a vibrant education system. Parker will also continue his work in advocacy for the protection of children, and has previously been highly recognized for his legislative successes related to abuse prevention, ending teenage homelessness, and public safety. In addition to his committee assignments, Representative Parker also serves as the Chairman of the House Caucus, which represents all 95 House members. In this capacity, he leads the overwhelming majority by providing research, education, policy development, floor management, and other support to the Caucus members and their staff.
