Rep. Leach Statement on Gov. Abbott's State of the State Address
AUSTIN - Today, during his “State of the State” address to the people of Texas and the 85th Legislature, Governor Greg Abbott announced CPS Reform, Sanctuary Cities, Ethics Reform & Convention of States as Emergency Items to be addressed immediately. Additionally, Governor Abbott highlighted a variety of critical legislative priorities to achieve between now and the end of the legislative session, which adjourns on May 29th. In response to the Governor’s address, Representative Jeff Leach issued the following statement:
“Today, Governor Abbott exemplified his commitment to building a safer, stronger and more prosperous state and laid out a clear and bold vision to do just that. I commend the Governor for his challenge to the Texas Legislature to work aggressively to protect vulnerable Texas children, guarantee public safety, ensure our government is open and honest, and to preserve and protect the rights and liberties of Texans. I look forward to working with Governor Abbott to build and safeguard a culture of life, protect law enforcement, bolster and improve education, lower taxes and limit government – and I am committed to working alongside of him and my colleagues in the Texas Legislature to advance the conservative values that make Texas free and strong. As Governor Abbott stated today – it is time for the Legislature to go to work – and I am more eager than ever to roll up my sleeves and tackle the important work for the Texans of today and the future Texans of tomorrow."
