State Representative Gene Wu nominates Jordan Bradford for the Texas Armed Services Scholarship

HOUSTON, TX - State Representative Gene Wu announced today the nomination of Jordan Bradford for the Texas Armed Services Scholarship. Bradford, a freshman at Texas A&M, plans on pursuing a degree in Construction Science.

The Texas Armed Services Scholarship Program (TASSP) was created by the Texas Legislature to provide financial opportunities for students seeking a college education and also wanting to pursue a military career by participating in Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) programs at college. Students who receive the scholarship make a commitment to serve as a member of the Texas Army National Guard, Texas Air National Guard, Texas State Guard, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Merchant Marine or a commissioned officer in any branch of the armed services of the United States. TASSP awards make a huge difference in the lives of high achieving students by providing a scholarship with awards of up to $10,000 per academic year for up to four years toward undergraduate education at any Texas University with an ROTC program.

Bradford has distinguished himself through high academic achievement, meeting all four academic requirements for the scholarship, and graduating in the top 6% of his class. Throughout high school, Jordan filled his time with extracurricular and community service activities as a member of the Boy Scouts of America where he achieved the Eagle Scout rank, a member of the National Honor Society, a band member, a member of the Nimitz High School baseball and football teams, and attained a 1st degree black belt in Kyokushi Kai Karate. In addition, Bradford has been very involved in his church community as a dedicated volunteer, participating in monthly service projects.

Bradford was inspired to go into the military by his father, who served 20 years in the U.S. army. Bradford plans to serve a long career in the army with goals of becoming a combat engineer, Army Ranger, and a member of the Green Berets. Bradford looks forward to opportunities to build good will with civilians in conflict areas through reconstruction and humanitarian work. He is grateful for the opportunity to make these aspirations a reality.

"Jordan is an exceptional young man with a bright future ahead of him. I am impressed by his resolve to serve our country, and his passion for helping others," said Rep. Wu. "He has shown that he is an intelligent and determined individual, and I am proud to nominate Jordan as the District 137 TASSP nominee."
