REP. RODNEY ANDERSON NAMED CHAIR OF THE SUBCOMMITTEE ON AIRPORTS
Austin, Texas - This week Rep. Rodney Anderson was named Chair of the Subcommittee on Airports by Rep. Rafael Anchia, Chair of the House Committee on International Trade & Intergovernmental Affairs.
In 2014, Texas ranked first in the U.S. with an estimated value of $289 billion worth of goods exported to our international trading partners. Air cargo plays an important role in trade, as it is a mode for low-weight, high value, and time-sensitive goods such as medicines and electronics. By weight it only accounts for 2% of total trade in Texas; however, it accounts for 40% by value. A study by the Texas Transportation Institute at Texas A&M University projected Texas air cargo to grow over 526% from 2002 to 2035.
“Rep. Anderson's district is adjacent to DFW International Airport, the third largest airport in the world in terms of operations,” said Rep. Anchia. “I am delighted to have Rep. Anderson on the committee and wanted to recognize his expertise by entrusting him with this important chairmanship.” DFW Airport is also a leader in air cargo, having processed 606,659 U.S. tons of cargo in 2013 with an annual growth-rate of 4.6% since 2003. “I’m honored that Chairman Anchia has appointed me to this position,” said Rep. Anderson. “I look forward to serving as a contact and resource for almost 400 airports in Texas.”
