Frisco Student Receives Texas Armed Services Scholarship
Rep. Pat Fallon Nominates Local Teen for ROTC Accolade, Annual Scholarship
Little Elm, TX-- State Representative Pat Fallon recently named Brandon Summerlin of Frisco the recipient of the second annual Texas Armed Services Scholarship for House District 106.
“The Texas Armed Services Scholarship is an important financial support program for our state's aspiring servant leaders,” said Fallon, a former ROTC cadet at the University of Notre Dame and officer in the United States Air Force. “As an intern in our local office, Brandon showed himself to be a dedicated and patriotic young man, and I’m glad to help him pursue his goals of getting a solid education and serving as a United States Marine.”
Summerlin, son of Robert and Pamela Summerlin of Frisco, recently graduated from Wakeland High School and plans to join the Corps of Cadets at Texas A&M University this fall. “I recently chose my Navy/Marine unit in the Corps of Cadets, Killer K-2,” said Summerlin. “I specifically chose this unit because it focuses on achieving academic success and maintaining top physical fitness."
The Texas Armed Services Scholarship, administered by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB), was created by the Texas Legislature in 2009 to assist promising students from throughout the state who are committed to education and service. It encourages young leaders to participate in Reserve Officer’s Training Corps (ROTC) programs at Texas institutions of higher learning and to become commissioned officers in the United States Armed Services or members of the Texas Army National Guard, the Texas Air Force National Guard, the Texas State Guard, or the United States Merchant Marine force. Each member of the Texas Legislature is able to appoint one qualified student for the annual accolade.
For more information about the program, contact The Higher Education Coordinating Board or call Representative Fallon’s district office at (469) 362-0500. The application period for the 2015-2016 school year will open next spring.
State Representative Pat Fallon represents Texas House District 106 in Denton County.
