Rep. Flynn Joins Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples in Supporting the Texas Water Smart Coalition
AUSTIN, TX— State Representative Dan Flynn has joined the Texas Commissioner of Agriculture, Todd Staples in supporting the Texas Water Smart Coalition which educates businesses and families about how they can take simple, proactive steps to conserve water during this current time of drought and to meet the future water needs of our growing population.
Texas Water Smart is a diverse public-private coalition. Their membership includes businesses, trade associations, cities, water suppliers and elected officials who are committed to promoting water conservation. Due to the extreme drought, water supplies are diminishing at an unprecedented rate, and cities and other water suppliers are being forced to implement water use restrictions that impact our homes and businesses. Water Smart educates families and businesses about easy and efficient ways to conserve.
Even if drought conditions were relieved today, the Texas State Water Plan, published by the Texas Water Development Board with input from every region of the state, says we shall need major conservation initiatives to meet the water needs of a rapidly growing population. Representative Flynn stated, "I fully support and commend Commissioner Staples and Texas Water Smart for their efforts in conserving water and educating Texans at such an imperative time. I hope to spread the word and get others involved so that together we can start conserving water that is becoming so precious to us."
Water Smart is a comprehensive consumer education initiative with goals to employ television, radio and print adds, social media and other targeted awareness tools to show Texans easy and practical ways to conserve. You can help by contributing financially; incorporating the message into existing outreach efforts; and sharing the Texas Water Smart with your fellow Texans. Act today! Let’s show the nation what Texans can do!
