Rep. Reynolds Announces State Sales Tax Holiday Weekend

Reminds Public to take advantage of sales tax holiday for back to school supplies

AUSTIN, TX (August 16, 2011)-- Rep. Reynolds (Fort Bend County, District 27) would like to remind the parents and schoolchildren that this Friday, August 19, marks the beginning of this year's Texas Sales Tax Holiday. The Sales Tax Holiday ends Sunday, August 21. Texans who shop during this weekend will not have to pay state and local sales taxes on certain items.

"In this tough economy, with unemployment hovering at 8%, Texans need every break they can get," said Rep. Reynolds. "I urge every Texan to take advantage of this sales tax holiday to purchase much needed clothing, shoes and schools supplies need for the start of another school year."

The sales tax holiday exempts backpacks, paper, pens, pencils, and most school supplies. Clothing and footwear priced under $100 are also exempt. The Sales Tax Holiday will save hardworking Texans about $8 on every $100 they spend.
