House Representative

Martinez , Armando "Mando"

AUSTIN--Representative Armando "Mando" Martinez (Weslaco) was appointed by Speaker Joe Straus to Transportation and Approbations, as well as the Appropriations Subcommittee on Articles I, IV, & V, key committees for the 82nd Texas Legislature.

"It is an honor and a great responsibility to be asked to serve on these two influential house committees," Representative Martinez stated. "I look forward to working with my fellow committee members on the important issues that impact the daily lives of Texans."

The Appropriations Committee has jurisdiction over all bills and resolutions appropriating money from the state treasury and bills and resolutions containing provisions resulting in automatic allocation of funds from the state treasury. Because the committee is charged with the state budget, it is considered a highly coveted and influential committee. Transportation Committee has jurisdiction over all issues regarding commercial motor vehicles, Texas highways, roads, rail, air, and water transportation. The committee also has jurisdiction over the Department of Motor Vehicles, the Department of Transportation, and the Transportation Commission.

“I would also like to congratulate the other members of the Valley delegation with their appointments.” Rep. Martinez stated. “All of the members of the Valley delegation were appointed to very influential committees. Together we will be a strong voice in Austin for all of the residents in the Rio Grande Valley.”

Thousands of pieces of legislation will be considered by the Legislature this session and the committee process closely analyzes legislation before Representatives vote on bills on the House Floor. Taking an active role as a committee member enables Rep. Martinez to have greater input on a large number of bills covering a wide range of issues
