Craddick Appoints Savage to the Health Disparities Task Force
(Austin) - Speaker Tom Craddick today announced the appointment of Ms. Sarana Savage to the Health Disparities Task Force. Ms. Savage's appointment fills a vacancy left by Dr. Hilton T. Perez who recently resigned.
"As a persistent advocate for community healthcare in Texas, Sarana will be an excellent addition to this task force," Speaker Craddick said. "I look forward to working with her to improve the state's healthcare system."
The Health Disparities Task Force was formed in 2001 to represent the state's community based health organizations and to make recommendations to the Texas Department of Health (TDH). The Task Force identifies ethnic and economic disparities that block access to healthcare, and reorganizes programs within TDH to eliminate those disparities.
"I'm very pleased and excited about being appointed as one of the Speaker's representatives to the Health Disparities Task Force," Savage said. "I look forward to making a difference by helping the task force accomplish its many goals."
Ms. Savage has served on the Midland Community Healthcare Services (MCHS) Board of Directors since October 2004. She is currently the board president. Ms. Savage taught in the Midland Independent School District for ten years and worked for the Texas Department of Health from 1988 until her retirement in 2004.
The term is effective immediately and will end on February 1, 2010.
