Rep. Murphy Selected to Attend National Leadership Conference
Austin, Texas – State Representative Jim Murphy is joining state legislative leaders from across the nation at the National Conference of State Legislators (NCSL) Annual Leadership Summit in Santa Fe October 8th-11th. Representative Murphy is one of four members (out of 150) chosen by Speaker Craddick to represent Texas. “I nominated Rep. Murphy because he has demonstrated significant leadership abilities and a strong work ethic," Speaker Craddick said. "He is one of our rising stars and will represent Texas well at this prestigious national conference.”
NCSL brings together some of the nations foremost experts on leadership. Through discussions and small groups, Representative Murphy will have a chance to work with members of other State Legislatures to explore the paths and challenges of leadership. “ I want to have a greater leadership role over time and the knowledge and experience I gain from this conference will help me achieve this goal. We use “best practices” in the business world and it just makes sense to apply this same concept to improving the way we provide our public service, " commented Murphy.
NCSL is a bipartisan organization that serves the legislators and staffs of the nation's 50 states, its commonwealths and territories. NCSL provides research, technical assistance and opportunities for policymakers to exchange ideas on the most pressing state issues.
Representative Murphy represents House District 133, which includes part of west Harris County. He serves as Vice Chair of Urban Affairs and is a member of the House Transportation and Rules and Resolutions Committees.
