FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 01/29/2007
Rep. Eddie Rodriguez Assigned to House Committee on Pensions and Investments
Austin -- State Representative Eddie Rodriguez (Austin) was assigned to the House Committees on Pensions and Investments, Redistricting and Government Reform for the 80th Legislative Session.
"I'm excited about the opportunity to serve on these three House Committees, especially Pensions and Investments, where I served during the 79th legislative session. Serving on these committees will allow me to work closely on the issues that directly affect my constituents."
The Pensions and Investments committee has jurisdiction over benefits or participation in benefits of a public retirement system and the financial obligations of a public retirement system and handles legislation that deals with several state agencies including the Office of Fire Fighters' Pension Commissioner and the State Board of Trustees of the Teacher Retirement System.
"The Texas Legislature has an obligation to current and future retired teachers to ensure that the Teachers Retirement System is actuarially sound. As an active member of the Pensions and Investments committee for the second consecutive legislative session, I will continue to advocate for the teachers of Texas to ensure that their futures are secure."
