ELKINS SPONSORS 13 YEAR OLD'S TRIP TO LEADERSHIP ACADEMY
Austin, TX – State Representative Gary Elkins recently announced he is sponsoring 13 year-old Michelle Urrea to attend the Lone Star Leadership Academy. Ms. Urrea, a constituent in Elkins' district, was nominated by her Texas History Teacher, Leslie Bourland at Arnold Middle School in the Cypress Fairbanks Independent School District. Ms. Bourland noticed Michelle's outstanding academic ability, leadership skills, community involvement, and interest in politics. Education in Action, dedicated to fostering educated and involved Texans, hosts the Lone Star Leadership Academy to "Instill the Spirit of Texas in Tomorrow's Leaders."
Joining a delegation of outstanding students from across the state of Texas, Michelle will develop leadership skills while learning about the great state of Texas and its leaders. She will learn about future career and internship opportunities and visit historically, politically and geographically significant sites including the Austin offices of her State Representative and Senator, the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum, LBJ Library, State Cemetery, Governor’s Mansion, State Capitol, Supreme Court, and McKinney Roughs Environmental Learning Center. The Lone Star Leadership Academy calls for participants to become active citizens and leaders in their communities.
Representative Elkins met with Michelle and her mother, Francia Urrea, earlier this year to congratulate her for her exceptional academic and leadership accomplishments. Representative Elkins is delighted to be able to sponsor Michelle in such a valuable program.
