HOUSE BUDGET INCLUDES FUNDING FOR RANGER MUSEUM PROJECT
AUSTIN -- March 29, 2005 -- The McLennan County delegation has, after much effort, secured critical funding for renovation efforts at the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame & Museum. A $2.1 million rider has been attached to the budget of the Department of Public Safety’s appropriation for construction of “a new Texas Rangers headquarters as well as a public room for viewing Ranger memorabilia in Waco, Texas” [Source: House Committee Substitute of SB 1, page V-52].
Rep. Charles “Doc” Anderson (Waco) commented, “This comes at a great time for the Ranger headquarters. The Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum has been a very valuable state resource, but a lot of people don’t know that it receives no state funding.”
“The $2.1 million from the state is a great statement of faith that the Museum and the City of Waco will work together with all supporters of the museum for its wonderfully planned expansion and renovation project,” Dr. Anderson said, referring to the total plan.
The House Appropriations Committee passed its version of the budget today for consideration on the House floor. The full House is expected to consider the budget bill next week.
