Legislation allows the sale of fireworks during Diwali

AUSTIN — Plano Representative Matt Shaheen announced today that he has filed legislation to allow fireworks
to be sold during Diwali, the Hindu Festival of Lights. "The Indian population is one of the fastest growing
demographics in Texas, and their traditions and customs are enriching our communities and quality of life,”
Shaheen said. “Texas allows the sale of fireworks on certain holidays that are important to us, and Diwali is very
significant to our fellow Texans in the Indian community. Allowing the sale of fireworks during Diwali will help
them celebrate it in the most meaningful way.”
