Deer Park, Texas -- Today, Briscoe Cain, Chairman of the House Select Committee on Driver’s License Issuance and Renewal, released the following statement in response to Governor Greg Abbott waiving expiration dates for Driver Licenses, Commercial Driver Licenses, and other state identification forms.

“Since Governor Greg Abbott declared a State of Disaster, we have seen burdensome red tape and numerous regulations waived to support Texans. I want to thank Governor Greg Abbott for listening to our concerns about the Driver’s License process, and commend him for taking this necessary step in continuing to protect Texans. In order to practice proper social-distancing and self-quarantining, Texans should not be forced to choose between possibly receiving a citation for driving with an expired license and waiting in line at a crowded public facility to renew their license. The suspension of this government regulation is common sense.” said State Representative Cain.

“This past year, my office has received numerous messages from constituents about the long wait times at DPS facilities as Texans work to renew their identification and come into compliance with the Federal REAL ID Act. As Chairman of the House Select Committee on Driver’s License Issuance and Renewal, I look forward to our committee tackling issues like long wait times and improving the overall driver’s license renewal process when we are no longer under a State of Disaster,” continued Cain.

Briscoe Cain has served as the State Representative for House District 128 since being elected in 2016. A co-founding member of the Texas Freedom Caucus, he has consistently been named the #1 most conservative legislator in the Texas House. Representative Cain currently serves as Chair of the Select Committee on Driver’s License Issuance & Renewal. A lifelong resident of Harris County, Briscoe and his wife Bergundi are parents to four – soon to be five – boys and are residents of Deer Park. The Cain Family attends Faith Family Church in Baytown.
