AUSTIN – Speaker Bonnen recently appointed Representative Middleton to serve as Co-Chair of the Joint Interim Committee to Study a Coastal Barrier System. He will serve alongside Senator Taylor as Co-Chair.

The Legislature first created the interim committee in 2013 in an effort to study the creation and maintenance of a coastal barrier system along the Texas Gulf Coast. The committee is comprised of the Senate Committee on Natural Resources, two Senate coastal members, the House Committee on Land and Resource Management, and two House coastal members.

Representative Middleton is proud to serve House District 23 as one of the House coastal members and Co-Chair of this committee. “As a coastal district, my constituents and I have witnessed the importance of having a resilient infrastructure that is equipped to protect lives, homes, and businesses from natural disasters that threaten our Gulf coast—this includes the critical coastal barrier system. The Gulf Coast is the economic engine of not just Texas but all of America. I look forward to further development of the coastal barrier system plan in Texas,” expressed Middleton.

“I would like to thank Speaker Bonnen for this important appointment and all his hard work to advance Gulf
Coast issues.”

At this time, the Joint Interim Committee to Study a Coastal Barrier System has not set any hearing dates.
