Legislative Committee on Aging will study issues relating to the aging population of Texas
DALLAS, TX - State Representative Toni Rose (110) named Presiding Officer of the Legislative Committee on Aging by Speaker Dennis Bonnen.
The Legislative Committee on Aging is a committee created by the Human Resource Code for the Department of Aging and Disability to study and make recommendations to address issues relating to the aging population of Texas, including issues related to the health care, income, transportation, housing, education, and employment needs of that population.
The committee is comprised of two members of the Texas Senate, two members of the Texas House of Representatives, and two public members appointed by the Governor. The Lieutenant Governor and the Speaker of the House of Representatives alternate in appointing the presiding officer of the committee. Representative Rose has served on the Legislative Committee on Aging since her initial appointment in 2016. Representative Rose will serve as the Presiding Officer for the current two-year term.
“It is a true honor and privilege to serve as Presiding Officer for this biennium," said Representative Rose. “We recognize that people are living longer due to medical advancement, which makes us excited about our senior population growing by the thousands. It is imperative that our seniors receive proper access to health care, obtain appropriate housing as well as secure employment.”
Other members of the committee include Representative Ben Leman, Senator Eddie Lucio, Jr., Senator Donna Campbell, Ms. Betty Lee Watts Streckfuss and Dr. Ben Edward Dickerson.
